My name is Dawson Amico. I’m based in Orlando, FL (growing zone 9B/10A), and habitat restoration has always been my lifes passion. My journey with plants began in childhood, but when I was 18 I started growing native milkweed from seed to support the struggling monarch butterfly population. I loved sharing milkweed plants with friends and gardeners alike.
In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, I dove into composting and began experimenting with various methods. That same year I co-founded Monarch Urban Farm, a native, edible, and medicinal plant nursery in Oviedo. Naturally, we grew a wide variety of native milkweed species and deepened our commitment to ecological gardening.
In September 2021 I became the Fleet Farming Program Manager at the nonprofit IDEAS For Us. Over nearly three years, I managed more than 15 front yard microfarms and orchards. My work included crop planning, seasonal rotations, farmers market operations, volunteer coordination, and ongoing infrastructure improvements to the gardens. I also created and taught the Living Learning Classes, a hands-on educational series focused on sustainable growing.
Now as the founder of Hospitable Harvests I’m excited to share everything I’ve learned. Think of me as your personal garden coach; here to help you transform your yard into a productive, beautiful, and ecologically vibrant space. Whether you're just starting out or looking to take your garden to the next level, I’m here to support you every step of the way!
